Mama Dee's Story

In August 2016, my oldest daughter graduated from East Jefferson High School and was preparing to attend Southeastern Louisiana University College.  However, the cost of her first semester, which amounted to $15,296 was a financial burden for me as a single parent raising two children. Realizing that I couldn't meet the requirements on my own, I reached out to a member of my church for help.

I explained my situation, and he suggested that I host a supper to raise funds. At first, I was hesitant and thought it wasn't something I could do. It just didn't seem like me. But he encouraged me to sleep on it and think it over. I decided to pray about it and the next morning, I call my church member, Bro Melvin, and told him that I had made up my mind. I was going to host a supper and see where it would take us.

I made a list of food items, flyers, paper products, and what would be included in a to-go plate. Armed with this list, I went to the store and spent $1,200 on supplies. To my surprise, I ended up making $4,300. I was encouraged by the outcome, I continued to host suppers for the next four years twice a year, using the proceeds to support my daughters's college education.

Through this journey, I earned the nickname ''Mama Dee" as I sold plates to help my daughter attend college. It was a challenging road, but with faith and prayer, God answered all my prayers. Finally, in December 2019, my daughter graduated from college, and I couldn't be more grateful for the support and blessings that came our way.

I am excited to share that I pursued my passion for culinary arts and works for Mama Dee's Catering LLC

full-time.  Although I have longevity in the medical profession, over 25 years as a

Certified State Licensed Laboratory Technician, Phlebotomist, I have always had a deep love for cooking and creating delicious meals for others.
