Mama Dee's Story
The Story Behind Mama Dee’s Catering LLC
In August 2016, my oldest daughter graduated from East Jefferson High School and was preparing to attend Southeastern Louisiana University. However, the cost of her first semester was $9,800 which was a financial burden for me as a single parent raising two children.
Realizing I could not meet the financial requirements on my own, I reached out to a member of my church for guidance. After explaining my situation, he suggested that I host a supper to raise funds. At first, I was hesitant because it didn’t feel like something I would normally do. He encouraged me to pray about it and sleep on the idea.
The next morning, after praying, I called my church member, Bro. Melvin, and told him I had made up my mind. I was going to host a supper and trust God to guide the rest.
I created a list of food items, flyers, paper products, and what would be included in each to-go plate. With faith, I went to the store and spent $1,200 on supplies. To my surprise, that first supper brought in $4,300.
Encouraged by the outcome, I continued hosting suppers twice a year for the next four years. The proceeds from those meals helped support my daughter throughout her college journey.
During that time, people began calling me “Mama Dee,” as they came to buy plates and support my mission to help my daughter attend college.
It was not always easy, but through faith, prayer, and determination, God answered every prayer. In December 2019, my daughter graduated from college, and I will forever be grateful for the love, support, and blessings we received along the way.
Today, I am proud to say that I followed my passion for cooking and now operate Mama Dee’s Catering LLC full-time. Although I have over 25 years of experience in the medical field as a Certified State-Licensed Laboratory Technician and Phlebotomist, my heart has always been in the kitchen—cooking and creating meals that bring people together.
